About

I'm an Animation Professor at LUCA School of Arts, campus C-mine in Genk, Belgium. I teach at the Re:Anima Joint Master in Animation and I'm a senior researcher at the Inter-Actions Research Unit. My research interests include philosophy of Technics, power relations inscribed in and reinforced by technical objects, and decolonial perspectives in animation. Previously, I was an Animation Professor at Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), in Brazil. MFA and PhD by the Graduate Program in Arts at EBA/UFMG. I'm also a free software advocate, animator, rigger and I also like to code. You can see some of my works and know a bit more about me at:

Blender Animation Book

I've written a book about Rigging and Animation in Blender for Packt Publishing. You can get the files here.

Old Blog

Yes, I had a blog. Haven't updated it since 2011. Anyway, if you need something from there I have kept backwards compatibility and you can read it below.

Nocturna: long life, 2D!

Long life, 2D!

In my daily browsing for cool things in animation, I stumbled upon a Filmax Animation release: Donkey Xote.

I watched the trailer and, honestly, didn't liked it. Besides the fact that it looks like it's well produced, I felt it way too generic. By watching the trailer I could spot some well known jokes borrowed from studios like DreamWorks and Blur.

As I didn't know that Spanish studio, I did a research on it until I got into their website. After watching some trailers that shared the same things I felt about Donkey Xote, I gladly found a very cool one: Nocturna. Produced by Filmax and Animakids.

I strongly recommend it to all of you who wants to see a very good 2D production. Notice how carefully everything was done, from the website, to the cool character design, color palette (with some inspiration by the new classic Les Triplettes of Belleville) and an interesting story. The website is Spanish only, but it seems that an English version is coming soon.

Unfortunately I believe this production won't reach the Brazilian theaters, but I hope I can watch it on DVD. If this movie shows up in a theater near you, go watch it! =)

Congratulations to Filmax for this production. I'm in hope that their new productions could be more like Nocturna.

2007-Nov-05: Blender Pro
Blender Pro

Tomorrow (Oct, 6th) will happen the first Blender Pro: a Brazilian Blender Conference. It's a good sign for the growing Brazilian Blender user base.

It will be held in São Leopoldo - RS. If you happen to be around, I think it's a good place to go. =)

Unfortunately I'm not close to there. Actually I live more than a thousand miles from there, and it's pretty hard to convince my boss to let me go there. =P

2007-Nov-03: Kung Fu Panda trailer
Kung Fu Panda trailer

The new website and trailer for the upcoming DreamWorks movie Kung Fu Panda are now online.

I'm looking forward to watching this. I looks quite impressive, and the animation is extremely well done. I believe the animators had quite a challenge on this.

Plumiblender

Its available for download the custom Blender build made at Plumiferos production.

There are a lot of new features made based on the needs of the Argentinian artists, and many of them (if not all) should be in the next official Blender release.

As this version is not (yet) officially supported by Blender Foundation, there may be some compatibility issues. There are at this time only Linux and Windows builds available for download.
