About
I'm an Animation Professor at LUCA School of Arts, campus C-mine in Genk, Belgium. I teach at the Re:Anima Joint Master in Animation and I'm a senior researcher at the Inter-Actions Research Unit. My research interests include philosophy of Technics, power relations inscribed in and reinforced by technical objects, and decolonial perspectives in animation. Previously, I was an Animation Professor at Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), in Brazil. MFA and PhD by the Graduate Program in Arts at EBA/UFMG. I'm also a free software advocate, animator, rigger and I also like to code. You can see some of my works and know a bit more about me at:
Yes, I had a blog. Haven't updated it since 2011. Anyway, if you need something from there I have kept backwards compatibility and you can read it below.
Browsing by Allan Brito's blog, I saw an article pointing to a video tour showing a bit of Pixar facilities =)
Of course that it isn't like the extras found on DVDs like Monsters Inc. or Finding Nemo, but I just can't get enough of viewing videos about the studio. Who knows... maybe someday I can see it with my own eyes. ;)
First there is an interesting article from Variety on Argentina's growing animation market. Since there are some Argentinian friends who visits this blog, they can tell us something else about it. Maybe there's the place I should go animate, huh? ;)
Now that you read the article, what about enjoying some Aardman shorts at AtomFilms.
Today I get back at taking life drawing classes. =)
After finishing college I barely drew with pencil and paper again. Almost everything I did involved a mouse and/or a tablet.
Far from being happy with that, I've decided to get life drawing classes again. After all, doesn't matter the medium I chose for animating, better drawings will sure help improve my results.
Of course that the image which illustrate this post is not mine. It's from some guy you may have heard of... ;)
It's tough job to find people who don't like Peanuts. Tomorrow (Feb, 12th) will be 8 years since Charles Schulz left us, and I found something that could be a cool thing for the date.
There is an online radio here in Brazil called Uol That Jazz, and this week there is a program about the songs created for the animated adaptations of Schulz' comic strips. All songs were composed by jazz pianist Vince Guaraldi and are a pleasure to listen.
For those who don't understand Portuguese, both the text on the link and what the guy says before the songs are basically the same thing: notes about the songs, the composer and musicians who made later homages. Not much different info than you can get on the above links. =)
Yesterday happened the 35th annual Annie Awards, where animators celebrate animation. Ratatouille took no less than 10 awards!
There was some cool other things, like the Winsor McCay Award (to career contributions to the art of animation), given to John Canemaker, Glen Keane and John Kricfalusi.
