About

I'm an Animation Professor at LUCA School of Arts, campus C-mine in Genk, Belgium. I teach at the Re:Anima Joint Master in Animation and I'm a senior researcher at the Inter-Actions Research Unit. My research interests include philosophy of Technics, power relations inscribed in and reinforced by technical objects, and decolonial perspectives in animation. Previously, I was an Animation Professor at Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), in Brazil. MFA and PhD by the Graduate Program in Arts at EBA/UFMG. I'm also a free software advocate, animator, rigger and I also like to code. You can see some of my works and know a bit more about me at:

Blender Animation Book

I've written a book about Rigging and Animation in Blender for Packt Publishing. You can get the files here.

Old Blog

Yes, I had a blog. Haven't updated it since 2011. Anyway, if you need something from there I have kept backwards compatibility and you can read it below.

As I promised, this time I'm promoting an event with enough time for you guys to schedule on your agendas. =)

Later this month (on days 30th and 31st) will be held at SENAI (Goiânia) the 5º Goias Free Software Forum.

I'll be there, as usual, giving a short course on Blender. If you happen to be around on those days, stop by and say hi. =)

2008-May-06: Oktapodi
Oktapodi

Every year the French school Gobelins releases a list of its student shorts. One of the things I like about it is that they always release some making of videos.

This year there is one I'm really looking forward: Oktapodi. Even for a student film from Gobelins, the number of awards it has already got.

Unfortunately this animation isn't online yet, but we can already enjoy its making of.

Interview with... Myself! =)

Otavio Tatasoka, who runs the site Blender Total (a great resource on Blender for Portuguese speakers) asked me a few days ago to give him an interview.

The article, in Portuguese, can be read here.

Got today a really great tip from Kernon, founder of BlenderNewbies:

Its a series of videos. Three of them are about a TV special called "I Drew Roger Rabbit", with the great Richard Williams.

I have this movie DVD - which is one of my favorites - and I can say those videos are not on the extra features.

For those who don't know (or remember) Williams gave to the animation world some other gems, like the "Bible" Animator's Survival Kit.

The fourth video is another rarity: the workprint intro from "The Thief and Cobbler", an animated feature in which Williams worked for 26 years. This movie was released (without him and with modifications) on early nineties. You can read more about the history that involves this movie production here.

Now, for your delight:

Variety has a pretty interesting article on Blue Sky Studios.

It talks a little about the history of this company, founded by ex-members of the Disney's Tron crew and that now is moving to a new "higher profile" facilities.
