About

I'm an Animation Professor at LUCA School of Arts, campus C-mine in Genk, Belgium. I teach at the Re:Anima Joint Master in Animation and I'm a senior researcher at the Inter-Actions Research Unit. My research interests include philosophy of Technics, power relations inscribed in and reinforced by technical objects, and decolonial perspectives in animation. Previously, I was an Animation Professor at Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), in Brazil. MFA and PhD by the Graduate Program in Arts at EBA/UFMG. I'm also a free software advocate, animator, rigger and I also like to code. You can see some of my works and know a bit more about me at:

Blender Animation Book

I've written a book about Rigging and Animation in Blender for Packt Publishing. You can get the files here.

Old Blog

Yes, I had a blog. Haven't updated it since 2011. Anyway, if you need something from there I have kept backwards compatibility and you can read it below.

Coraline and some cool tuts

Saw today on CGTalk tree cool things:

The first is a sneak peek of the stop motion movie based on the Neil Gaiman book: Coraline.

I do respect a lot stop motion animation. Its an insane amount of work, and the results are amazing. To give you an idea of the quality of it, on the CGTalk thread there was an user who thought it was 3D. =)

The other two are tutorials:

  • a 150 page PDF about precise modeling on Blender. If you want to animate something in 3D, you need first to have the models. =)
  • a cool video that explains how to customize the Blender interface to fit your needs.

Talking about tutorials, Pablo Lizardo wrote a cool one about using transparent PNGs on the viewport.

Last but, definitely, not least: Merry Christmas everyone!!!

<edit>

Today I got Blendernationed, and this lead to an insane use of my web server bandwidth. I must thank and recommend the great services of NewX web hosting for helping me out with some "extra" gigabytes. =)
